Dear Parents/Guardians,
The students were VERY excited today to learn that they were becoming authors! We are going to be working towards writing our own books. Through studying our favourite author, Robert Munsch, we will learn what good authors do, how they write, and where they get ideas from. Please expect a REAL published book to come home before winter break (ideally!) Please ask me about becoming an author and all about Robert Munsch!!! Spelling:
Please continue with Home Reading. I have updates half of the Grade 1s reading assessments. I will continue to work on this throughout the week. Thank you for your patience. Math: Leave a comment below stating an ABBA pattern. Example: Circle, Square, Square, Circle, Circle, Square, Square, Circle, Circle, Square, Square, Circle... Have a good evening! Dear Parents/Guardians,
Please note that tomorrow is a Professional Development Day for teachers. This means that there is no school for students. See you Monday! Bragg Creek Spirit of Christmas letter was sent home today. Please see the invitation in the front of your child's agenda. Continue with Home Reading and Spelling each week. Please note that I plan to start updating formal reading assessments next week, so please pay attention to your child's updated reading level and make sure they are bringing home correct level books. Note that completing accurate reading assessments for the entire class takes about 3 weeks, as these tests must be done during lunch time or while the students are in music. I appreciate your patience as I update the students quickly improving reading levels. Finally, we will be having our practice lockdown on Monday. There was a letter explaining this sent home several days ago. I will remind the students of expectations on Monday (i.e. no talking, listen to the teacher and follow directions, sit in the correct lockdown spot, etc. Comment below: Grade 1: What is an interesting fact that you learned about bears during hibernation? Grade 2: Name an object that is magnetic and an object that is non-magnetic. School Photo orders due TOMORROW! Class photo was sent home today.

Grade 2 specific learner outcome: Sort a set of objects, using two attributes, and explain the sorting rule. How could you sort the buttons in this picture? If you are in Grade 1, sort using one attribute. If you are in Grade 2, sort using two attributes. Grade 1 example: I could sort the buttons into different groups based on colour! All of the blue ones could go in one group, all of the red ones in another group, etc. Grade 2 example: I could sort them into buttons that are blue, buttons with two holes, and blue buttons with two holes! (Try to encourage to students to describe a rule with an overlapping feature). At home, have a discussion today about the meaning of the poppy. In class, the students created their own poppy today to create a class wreath. This will be presented at the Remembrance Day Assembly on Friday.
Photo retakes Thursday. Please indicate to me if you would like your child to have retakes. Picture orders due November 14th. Practice spelling words a little each night. Can your child read the words? Spell the words orally? Write the words? (If you have things like lego, playdoh, etc. at home...Can your child build the words?) One fun idea would be to write the words in the carpet at home! At home, discuss the different sounds that "o" can make! For example, what sound does "o" make in the word "so"? What about "do"? What about "hop"? What about "hope"? Students were also asked to hunt for words with the cute chunk "aw" at home in books or words around the house. (i.e. jaw, claw, saw, crawl, paw, shawl, law, straw, etc.) How many "aw" words can your child think of? Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope everyone is staying warm on these cold "winter" days! This is a friendly reminder to make sure your child is sent to school with labelled gloves, toques, jackets, snow pants, and boots! There are a lot of clothing items in our hallway, and labels help us keep track of all of the belongings. Additionally, please have your child practice putting on their own snow pants and jackets. Of course, I am always there to help, but the more independent the children are, the easier our day runs! I tell the students to do the following: 1. Put belongings in backpack. 2. Put snow pants on 3. Put jacket on (and zip it up!) 4. Put toque on 5. Put boots on 6. Put gloves on It will take some practice, but we will get there! Spelling words:
