Dear Parents,
Thank you for continuing to check the blog! I have a few announcements, so I appreciate your patience. Spelling test Friday:
Me to We Initiative: Please donate books. The books will then be sold at a book sale on a later date and the proceeds will go to providing clean water internationally. Grade 1: Tomorrow I will be sending home a letter regarding Scientists in School. Due to the presenter currently being in training, we are able to offer this program to the Grade 1s for free! We simply need some newspaper donations. Sound Kreations performance is Thursday at 2:00pm! Please come and watch our dance routine that we have been preparing over the past two weeks! After completing our fiction stories that we published, I decided to send copies of our stories to Robert Munsch. Our class was VERY excited today because we received a package from Robert Munsch today! He included a letter indicating that he really enjoyed our stories, a poster of one of his book covers, and (most wonderfully) an unpublished story that he wrote about our class! The students were thrilled to hear their names in the unpublished story, and really found it entertaining! I would like to send home a copy with each student tomorrow, so please expect this in the agenda. Finally, you will find a Valentine's Themed math worksheet in your child's agenda. Please have them finish it at home (colouring is nice but not necessary) and return it to school. Thanks! Miss Murphy Your homework is to watch the Olympics at home! Can you name the events that you watch? Can you name an athlete that we have talked about in class? Discuss with your parents at home.
Valentine's Day party on Wednesday afternoon. Please check agenda message for note if you are responsible for bringing a snack in for the party. 100th day of school Wednesday! Woo hoo! We will be doing MANY learning activities about the 100th day of school this week! Tell your parents about some of the activities about the 100th day of school we did today! Teachers' Convention is Thursday and Friday this week. There is therefore no school for students on these days. Family Day is Monday, February 19th. No school. Today we started our Sound Kreations residency! Our teacher's name is Miss Cody! Can you show your parents the dance steps at home? I have created a spelling list this week of Valentine's Day words. Students will continue to practice this for the first 20 minutes of school every day, however, there will not be a test this week due to the shortened week. It is more so just for fun and to maintain routine. Coco Brooks fundraiser continues this week. Help our Grade 5/6s pay for Outdoor School =) What was your favourite part of school today? (Ideas: Olympics, 100 math equations, math centres, science centres, dancing, buddies, indoor recess, outdoor lunch, etc.) ~Miss Murphy Spelling test Friday - S Blend Words
Library Wednesday - please return library books on this day every week. Bottle Drive: The School Council is accepting donations of all bottles to Woodlands School. Please drop off your bottles this week. There will be a marked vehicle in the staff parking lot, before and after school, where you can deposit your bottles. Or you may drop them off at the Tsuu T'ina bottle depot (Bay 108, 3700, Anderson Rd. SW) and let them know to sort them under the Woodlands School account. Thank you for your donations! Winter Walk Day Wednesday, February 7 at 2:00pm. Coco Brooks Pizza - Support Outdoor School With the help of the Woodlands School Council, we will be hosting a Coco Brooks fundraiser to help supplement the cost of attending Outdoor School for our Grade 5 and 6 students. This will help lower the fees associated with Outdoor School. This fundraising campaign will run February 14 to 28 with product pickup on March 14 in the evening. Sound Kreations Artist in Residence beginning next week! Woo hoo! Grade 1: Please share with your parents the various items that you have learned how to build. Specifically, talk about how you constructed a model home and the steps you took to build it in proportion. We have quite a few building supplies as of now! Thank you to everyone for bringing items in. I will update you if we need more items :) Grade 2: On Wednesday, please bring in an item that you know sinks in water. (Hint: Discuss at home what you could do to make this object float!) On Thursday, please bring in an item that you know floats in water. (Hint: Discuss at home what you could do to make this object sink!) Thank you! Leave a comment below stating the Winter Olympic Sport you are most looking forward to watching! |
