Hello!
It was such a pleasure to be back with your child today! I missed them dearly over the time that I was gone, and I think I have even seen them grow and improve over those short few days! Today was an exciting day. Students made inferences about where they thought their teacher has been for the past three days. They then did writing where they described what they think their teacher was doing while she was gone. I then shared where I had been with the students to showed a few pictures. The students then generated a list of questions for me about my trip, wrote it down on a piece of paper, and then "threw" their crumpled piece of paper like a snowball when they wanted their question answered! Lots of fun exploring our learning through the lens of my absence. In math, we reviewed how to show numbers using base ten blocks. Grade 1s built numbers using base ten blocks up to 20, and Grade 2s built numbers beyond 100! We will continue to practice drawing base ten blocks next week. In science, the Grade 1s reviewed the primary colours and what happens when we mix primary colours. Today they explored what happens when we mix other colours. Many of the students realized that when we mix a primary colour with a secondary colour it makes brown! Students also experimented with mixing other colours, and I'm sure they have some facts to share with you. The Grade 2s were studying weight of liquids. They engaged in an experiment to test which was heavier, water or oil. Students learned that water is heaver than oil, and that oil floats above water. Students then discussed how this can be a problem environmentally in the ocean. Please remember that there is a spelling test tomorrow. Have your child review their spelling list tonight. Again, it is below: Grade 1: I, a, Cc, Yy, Jj, Xx, Vv Blue group: as, has, fox, box, mix, egg, jam, pet, nap, big Purple group: next, left, help, please, believe, many, very, been, seen, she, between, three, easy, sea, leave Our Terry Fox run is tomorrow. Please make sure that your child wears outdoor runners for tomorrow. That's all for tonight!
